MIDDLEBURY — The Middlebury Union High School gymnastics team finished third in a home meet on Dec. 27 against two Division I schools, but Coach Natalia Little said she was pleased with her young team’s early-season progress.

“We are seeing increases in all scores for the athletes who competed last weekend at St Johnsbury (compared) to this evening’s meet,” Little wrote in an email to the Independent. “Given the improvements, I am very confident in the athletes’ abilities to place higher and continue to score higher as the season progresses.”

The team scores were: 1. Brattleboro, 126.8; 2. Champlain Valley, 124.35; 3. MUHS, 81.90.

In individual events, the results were:

Vault:

1.Sadie Cheslawski (Bratt), 8.7; 2. Juliette Pals (Bratt), 8.45 4. Lauren Chute (Bratt) and Gabriella Serafini (CVU), 8.4.

Bars:

1. Chute (Bratt), 8.5; 2. Warner Babis (CVU), 8.0; 3. Sylvia Moshovetis (Bratt), 7.6.

Beam:

1. Mckena Lesage (CVU), 8.85; 2. Chloe Crowder and Serafini (CVU), 8.65; 4 Chute (Bratt) 8.55; 5. Cadence Haggerty (CVU) 8.4; 6. Anni Broderson (MUHS) 7.9 (Little noted this was Broderson’s first high school meet.)

Floor:

1. Chute (Bratt), 8.6; 2. Cheslawski (Bratt) 8.5; 3. Hailey Richards (Bratt), 8.25; 4. Lesage (CVU), 7.95; 6. Leah Fortin (CVU) and Alixis Williams (MUHS), 7.8.

All-around:

1. Chute (Bratt) 34.05; 2. Cheslawski (Bratt) and Lesage (CVU) 31.5; 4. Haggerty (CVU), 29.95; 5. Williams (MUHS), 28.0; 6. Isabella Audy (Vergennes) 27.5.
