Boys’ hockey has a rough week
MIDDLEBURY — The Middlebury Union High School boys’ hockey team dropped three games last week, including two in the program’s annual holiday tournament.
In the first round of the tournament, on Friday, Essex topped the Tigers, 5-3, as Hornet Shyam Meyette led his team’s attack with two goals and two assists. Three of his teammates added a goal apiece, and Essex goalie Calvin Noeal made 14 saves.
Scoring for the Tigers were Sutton Rubright, Quinn Collins and Logan McNulty, and Caleb Foster supplied two assists. MUHS goalie TJ Baron made 40 saves.
In the other first-round game on Friday, U-32 defeated Stowe, 7-2.
On Saturday, U-32 blanked the Tigers, 8-0. Colton Warren led the Raider attack with three goals and two assists, and five of his teammates had a goal apiece. U-32 goalie Angus Kurts made 12 saves.
Tiger goalie TJ Baron was stalwart, with 49 saves, but the Tigers’ record fell to 0-5.
Back on Dec. 23, visiting Division I St. Albans shut out the Tigers, 6-0. Oliver Horton scored twice for the Bobwhites, four St. Albans players added a goal apiece, and goalie Elliot Deslauriers made 15 saves.
Baron returned from an injury for his first start of the winter and made 29 saves.
