RICHARD BRIAN TRACESKI

HERNANDO, Fla. — Richard Brian Traceski, 77, passed away peacefully on Aug. 30, 2024, surrounded by the love of his wife and daughters. Born on Nov. 20, 1946, in New Britain, Conn., Richard was the third of four children born to George and Irene (Gingras) Traceski.

A life defined by service, Richard began his journey as a Marine Radio Operator for Recon Division 3 during the Vietnam War. His dedication to his country continued upon his return when he joined the Hartford Fire Department, where he served with pride and distinction for 21 years.

Richard was passionate about the great outdoors. Whether hunting or fishing, he found solace in nature and cherished the peaceful moments it offered. His deep love for animals was equally evident in the variety of pets that filled his home over the years. Birds, cats, dogs, and even a beloved pig were not merely animals to Richard — they were cherished family members, spoiled daily and bringing immense joy into his life.

Richard was also a gifted carpenter, having built the home in Bridport, Vt. where the family resided for nearly 20 years before Richard and Gail relocated to Hernando, Fla. to enjoy their retirement days. He instilled in his children the importance of hard work, by involving them in his projects where they would learn valuable life skills and self-reliance.

With a larger-than-life presence, Richard had a soul-stirring laugh and a wicked sense of humor that could light up any room. His joy, generosity, and kindness will be deeply missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

Richard is survived by his devoted wife of 47 years, Gail Traceski; his four children; Kimberlie, Shane, Nicole, and Jennifer; his beloved grandson, Devan; and his youngest sister, Karen Polce.

Richard was interred in the Bushnell National Cemetery in Bushnell, Fla. with military honors during a private service on Friday, Sept. 13th.  In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Richard’s honor to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Family Support Unit, or the American Legion, both causes that held great meaning to him. ◊
