Salisbury family of four loses home to fire

SALISBURY — An online fundraising campaign has been started to help a Salisbury family of four whose home was destroyed by a fire during the early hours this past Monday, July 29.

It was a little after midnight on Monday that Salisbury firefighters were toned out on a report of a fire at the Katie Tucker/Steve Lubinski home on Morgan Road in West Salisbury, according to the Rutland Herald. Salisbury Fire Chief Ryan Emilio told the newspaper that flames were coming out of the roof when firefighters arrived, that the fire was put under control within about half an hour, and that Salisbury was assisted on scene by the Brandon and Middlebury fire departments. Firefighters from Whiting and New York also arrived to provide water, according to the Herald.

“Thankfully, the family (of four) and their beloved cat got out safely and are together as they grapple with this tragedy,” Salisbury Community School Principal Bjarki Sears wrote in a Wednesday email informing the community about the fire and a GoFundMe page (tinyurl.com/4kyuc9u3) created by Megan Riley for Tucker, Lubinski and their two children.

“Salisbury family needs our help, in the early hours of 7/30/2024 departments were toned for a structure fire. The members of the family were all able to exit the building safely, but leaving behind everything but what was on their backs. Please help if you can!” reads a message on the GoFundMe page, which lists a goal of $12,000.

As of early Thursday afternoon, $10,210 had been raised toward the goal.
