North Country Trail earns recognition

Vermont gained its third national park last week, with the Dec. 8 designation of “Unit Status” for the North Country National Scenic Trail by the National Park Service. It is the nation’s longest National Scenic Trail at 4,800 miles, linking eight northern states: Vermont, New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota and North Dakota.
