Vermont State Police Log: Driver killed in crash identified
ADDISON COUNTY — On May 24, after the deadline for the last print edition of the Independent, Vermont State Police identified the driver who was killed in a May 19 crash in Ferrisburgh. Police reported that Katherine Looby, 36, of Waltham was killed when the Subaru she was driving on Route 7 near Dakin Farm in Ferrisburgh at around 12:12 a.m. crossed the centerline and crashed head-on into a tractor-trailer. The truck driver was not reported hurt, but a fire destroyed both vehicles.
A longer report, though without the name of the deceased driver, appeared in last week’s newspaper and online at www.addisonindependent.com.
In other recent activity, troopers:
• On May 24 at around 6:30 p.m. closed Route 7 near Hunt Road in New Haven for around three hours while firefighters extinguished a blaze at a Hunt Road home. The next day, state police arrested Gary McIntyre, 77, of New Haven and cited him for first-degree arson. See the full story in the A section of this week’s edition.
• On May 27, closed Route 7 in Brandon just south of the Leicester town line due to a bad traffic accident. State police put out the word that the highway was closed at around 8:19 p.m. and didn’t give the all-clear until 4:30 a.m. the next morning. Police didn’t release details on the crash.
