Letter to the editor: Douglas is right to file lawsuit

Bravo to Jim Douglas for suing Middlebury College. Thanks for a dose of common sense, Jim. If Middlebury College’s action to remove Mead’s name from Mead Chapel were founded on more than terror of the Woke Pandemic, they would tear down Mead Chapel and return the original contribution, plus interest, to the benefactor’s heirs. Given this has not been done, on what principal does Middlebury College rely to remove Mead’s name while continuing to benefit from Mead’s gift by allowing students and community to congregate there ongoing?

Apparently Middlebury College has assessed its own integrity and intellectual rigor at such a low value that they have determined it may be squandered on a superficial pantomime of political correctness, even while extending Mead’s legacy by maintaining and benefiting from Mead Chapel, regardless what they choose to call it now.
