Middlebury student Jodi Covey honored at CCV

Community College of Vermont Middlebury student Jodi Covey has been named a 2022 New Century Workforce Scholar and will receive a $1,250 scholarship.

The scholarship is the first of its kind to support students at associate degree-granting institutions on a national scale as they plan to enter the workforce upon the completion of a degree or certificate. The program is sponsored by The Coca-Cola Foundation and Phi Theta Kappa National Honor Society (PTK). Scholars are selected based on their academic accomplishments, leadership, activities, and how they extend their intellectual talents beyond the classroom. Over 2,200 students were nominated from more than 1,200 college campuses across the country. Only one New Century Workforce Scholar was selected from each state.

Covey is working toward a degree in behavioral science and plans to pursue a career in governmental service. “It is really humbling,” she says of receiving the scholarship. An Air Force veteran and a mother of three, Covey also works full-time while pursuing her associate degree. She credits her academic success to determination, resilience, and the examples set by others. “It’s not easy,” she says. “But I look at the people who have come before me, and I say, ‘if they can do it, I can do it.’”
