Richard “Dick” Collitt, 78, of East Middlebury

EAST MIDDLEBURY — Richard “Dick” Collitt of East Middlebury died on Feb. 5, 2022, after a long illness. Born in Harrisburg, Pa., on March 25, 1943, the son of George and Geraldine Pomeroy Collitt, he attended schools in Harrisburg and graduated from Bucknell University in 1965.
He went into banking in Philadelphia, where he met and married the love of his life, Susan Eggmore, in 1969. Sue and Dick decided to travel the road less traveled and purchased the Ripton Country Store in 1976 and thoroughly enjoyed the store and their neighbors in Ripton until their retirement in 2018.
Dick enjoyed hunting and fishing, riding around in his WWII weapons carrier, walking and cross country skiing trails in Ripton, riding his bike, and going to the Middlebury Dog Park.
Dick is survived by his wife Susan; son Michael and wife Alison and their children Ashley and Owen; and son Matthew and wife Merry and their children Robert, Richard and Lily.
We are grateful for the help and care provided by Stephanie Stoddard and the rest of the hospice team.
There will be no services.◊
