MIDDLEBURY — Richard “Dick” Winston Seeley, 80, of Middlebury, Vt., passed away Wednesday, Sept. 8, at Porter Medical Center. Richard was born in Middlebury on Jan. 11, 1941, the son of Winston Sawyer and Melissa (Lamb) Seeley.

Richard is survived by his siblings, Lorraine “Maggie” Seeley, Jane Bradley, and Elaine Morbach; his ex-wife, Trudy of San Diego, Calif.; his children, Cassius of Salt Lake City, Utah, John (wife, Heather) of Middlebury, Yonik (wife, Margaret) of Branchburg, N.J., Bonnie of Salt Lake City, Utah, Anna (husband, Jason) of San Diego, Calif., and Theo of San Diego, Calif.; and his grandchildren, Kayla, Jason, Kate, Ben, Thea, and Becka.

He is fondly remembered by all for his love of maple sugaring, draught horses, and his sawmill. He always had an extensive list of favorite stories to tell and he was incredibly generous with his time and knowledge. He had a colorful sense of humor and way with words and always insisted on taking the scenic route.

Richard was a 7th-generation Vermonter, lifelong farmer, sawyer, and traditional maple sugarmaker.

His family sends their sincerest thanks and gratitude for the compassionate care he received from the staff at Porter Medical Center.

A public celebration of life will be held Saturday, Sept. 18, 3-7 pm, at the home of John and Heather Seeley, 287 Shard Villa Road, Middlebury. Please bring lawn chairs and a dish to share.

For those interested in donating in lieu of flowers, please send donations to Addison County Home Health and Hospice or Homeward Bound.◊
