Two field hockey teams open with victories

ADDISON COUNTY — The Mount Abraham and Otter Valley union high school field hockey teams debuted with big home victories over the weekend, and the Eagles added a road win on Tuesday.

Middlebury was idle. The Tigers will open the season at Burlington on Thursday.

EAGLES

On Friday, Sept. 3, the Eagles romped past visiting Missisquoi, 7-0. Olivia Campbell scored three times to lead the attack, Txuxa Konczal scored twice and set up a goal, and Sarah Heath added a pair of goals. Molly Laurent and Madison Gile picked up assists, and in goal Maddie Donaldson and Greta Jennison combined for two saves. T-Bird goalie Kali Favreaurwad made eight saves.

On Tuesday the 2-0 Eagles blanked host Rice, 2-0, as Laurent found the cage twice and Donaldson worked a three-save shutout. Rice goalie Kelli Cieplicki kept her team in the game with 15 saves.

OTTERS

OV blanked visiting Division I foe Brattleboro on Saturday, 6-0. Riley Keith and Brittney Jackson knocked in two goals apiece, and Alice Keith and Mackenzie McKay each scored once. Coach Jodie Keith said Marissa Connors anchored the defense.
