Champs swim to opening wins

VERGENNES — The Vergennes Champs claimed a pair of victories to open their Champlain Valley Swim League season.
The Champs opened on Thursday, July 1, with a 243-202 victory over visiting Chittenden County team The Edge, a perennial CVSL title contender. Vergennes followed up on Tuesday with a 241-161 decision at Winooski in that community’s new pool.
Against The Edge on July 1, the Champs won 11 of 18 contested relays, received three wins from Aurora Foley and Paul Foley, and got two victories apiece from Juliette Angier and Connor Husk.
Champs scoring points with top-three finishes in individual events in that meet were:

WINOOSKI MEET
At Winooski on Tuesday, Vergennes prevailed in 11 of 16 relays, while Aurora and Paul Foley once again led the Champs with three individual wins apiece.
Juliette Angier and Will Clark chipped in with two victories each.
Winning one race apiece for the Champs were Sophia James, Quinn LeBeau, Eleanor Brooks, Calder Rakowski, Isabella Romond, Sebastian Giroux, Carlyn Rapoport, Kendall Kittredge, Adrienne Smits and Grey Fearon.
The Champs will next host St. Albans on Thursday, July 8, and visit Essex this coming Tuesday.
