VA wreath ceremony in Vt. to be online

VERMONT — All those Vermonters who are missing the community feel of a socially distanced Memorial Day observance in the coming weekend are invited to the White River Junction VA Medical Center’s Memorial Day ceremony on Facebook Live. The Veterans Administration event will stream on the center’s Facebook page at this address online tinyurl.com/VtMemorialWreath.
The half-hour ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. this Sunday, May 30.
Chaplain Anthony Madu will offer remarks prior to laying a memorial wreath followed by the playing of TAPS by the White River Junction Navy Operational Support Center. There will be 250 poppy flowers placed around the memorial in memory of fallen Soldiers and Veterans, donated by the White River Junction VA Employees Association, Lebanon, N.H.’s American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Musical selections will be played by the Lyme Town Band.
The Twin State Marine Corps Detachment will support the ceremony with a color guard.
The White River Junction VA Healthcare System remembers those who have fallen on May 30 in honor of the original Decorations Day established on May 5, 1868, by Major General John A. Logan, the head of an organization of Union Veterans, as a time for the nation to decorate the graves of the war’s fallen soldiers with flowers. We encourage all who would like to watch, to please join in.
