Local tennis teams enjoy success
MIDDLEBURY — In Middlebury Union High School tennis action during the past week, the girls’ team won its only match and stood at 6-0 heading into a Wednesday contest at Montpelier, while the boys won twice in three outings to improve to 5-2 heading into a Wednesday home match vs. Harwood.
On Monday, the Tiger girls blanked host St. Albans, 7-0, without dropping a set.
At No. 1 singles, Scarlett Carrara, M, defeated Lydia Hodgeman, B, 6-2, 6-2.
At No. 2 singles, Julia Bartlett, M, defeated Ella Lambert, B, 6-0, 6-0.
At No. 3 singles, Abby Bailey, M, defeated Jaylen Bedard, B, 6-4, 6-1.
At No. 4 singles, Elizabeth Bright, M, defeated Shelly Bechard, B, 6-1, 6-1.
At No. 5 singles, Paige Hescock, M, won by forfeit.
At No. 1 doubles, Lois Alberts/Emma Franklin, M. defeated Genevieve Laclair/Lyla Beaulieu, B, 6-1, 6-0.
At No. 2 doubles, Gwen Troumbley/Emma Franklin, M, defeated Emma Boisvert/Emily Hayden, B, 6-2, 6-1.
On May 12, visiting U-32 avenged a loss to the Tiger boys two days earlier by edging them, 4-3, with several closely contested matches.
At No. 1 singles, Lasse Lieberman, U-32, defeated Clyde Malhotra, MUHS, 6-0, 6-0.
At No. 2 singles, Kayl Humke, U-32, defeated Andy Giorgio, MUHS, 6-2, 4-6, 10-6.
At No. 3 singles, Tzeri Schwarts, U-32, defeated Kellan Bartlett, MUHS, 6-4, 7-5.
At No. 4 singles, Aidan Chance, MUHS, defeated Julian Fitz, U-32, 6-0, 6-0.
At No. 5 singles, Abel Anderson, MUHS, defeated Gabe Goldstein-Perdue, U-32, 6-0, 6-0.
At No. 1 doubles, Oliver Poduschnick/Aiden Cole, MUHS, defeated Finn O’Donnell/Rory McLane, U-32, 6-1, 6-1.
At No. 2 doubles, JT Nordenson/Nils Young, U-32, defeated Henry Weston/Brian Newton, MUHS, 7-5, 6-4.
On May 14, the Tigers topped visiting North Country, 6-1.
At No. 1 singles, Malhotra, MUHS, defeated Ian Applegate (NC), 6-3, 7-6, (7-4).
At No. 2 singles, Giorgio, MUHS, defeated Max Roberts (NC), 6-0, 6-4.
At No. 3 singles, Bartlett, MUHS, defeated Will Brandich (NC), 6-3, 6-1.
At No. 4 singles, Aidan Chance, MUHS, defeated David Gratton (NC), 6-4, 6-2.
At No. 5 singles, MUHS won by forfeit.
At No. 1 doubles, Poduschnick/Cole, MUHS, defeated Cordin Brueck/Cooper Brueck (NC), 6-0, 6-4.
At No. 2 doubles, Chris Johnson/ Jeffrey Blais (NC), defeated Karic Riche/Antonio Abdul Sater (MUHS), 7-5, 4-6, 12-10.
On Monday, the Tigers waltzed past visiting St. Albans, 7-0, winning both doubles matches by forfeit.
