Holiday guide: Decorate Brandon and you may win a prize

BRANDON — The Brandon Area Chamber of Commerce is partnering with the Brandon Recreation Department and The Reporter newspaper to sponsor a Holiday Decorating Contest. All Brandon residents are invited to join in the holiday fun.
There will be six categories judged this year, with awards given in each category The are:
Residential, Currier and Ives Division — Beautiful, elegant, “Classy.” Something one might see on the cover of Yankee magazine. Typically, no inflatables.
Residential, Clark W. Griswold Division — Over the top, Green Mountain Power-loving, inflatables, music. Contest organizers described the potential winner as the house for which a homeowner’s association manager would tape a violation to the door, if there were such a thing.
Downtown Commercial — Businesses within immediate downtown Brandon.
Out of Downtown Commercial — Businesses outside of immediate downtown Brandon.
Civic Buildings/Organizations — Schools, emergency services, non-profit organizations, fraternal organizations, religious organizations of any denomination etc.
Most Decorated Street — The street with the greatest overall display score will receive a street sign trophy that will hang on the end of their street for the next year!
Judges will perform the final evaluation round on Sunday, Dec. 20, starting at 5 p.m. so be sure to have your lights turned on. There are 80 miles of roads in Brandon, and the committee will every effort to look at most of them. But, if you are interested in confirming a display (does not have to be yours) is properly adjudicated, you can do one or more (or all) of the following:
• Email [email protected] with your address and category.
• Post a picture on social media and tag Colleen Wright with the hashtag: #lightup2020.
• Leave a voice mail for Colleen (802) 247-3635 x211.
So drag out the lights, set up the manger, inflate Frosty, light the menorah, brush off the reindeer and perk up Ol’ St. Nick for a chance to win a prize.
The prize package includes:
• A beautiful poinsettia.
• A one-year subscription to The Reporter.
• A carload admission to a 2021 Jack McKernon Drive-in Event at Estabrook Park (movie or concert).
• Bragging rights (most important) and recognition in The Reporter!
Wishing a happy holiday season from the Brandon Area Chamber of Commerce, the Brandon Recreation Department and The Reporter!
