Politano, OV girls’ golf second in D-II

SWANTON — Otter Valley Union senior golfer Mia Politano on Tuesday came up short in her quest for a three-peat as the Vermont high school Division II girls’ golf medalist.
Politano’s score of 88 at the Champlain Country Club left her in second place behind Lake Region’s Tia Martinez, who fired an 82. Politano had defeated Martinez in each of the past two years.
Politano and her younger sister Elena Politano also finished second behind Martinez’ Lake Region team for the D-II title.
Martinez (82) and teammate Madeleine Racine (108) combined for a score of 190, while Mia Politano (88) and Elena Politano (115, good for ninth place in the D-II), combined for 203.
Harwood (222), Rice (224), U-32 (235) and Milton (236) trailed the leaders.
