Eagle, Otter Valley field hockey net victories
ADDISON COUNTY — Mount Abraham bested Middlebury to highlight area high school field hockey action in the past week.
In other action the Tigers came up short on the road, and Otter Valley blanked visiting Fair Haven.
Several games scheduled for Wednesday were postponed due to the threat of thunderstorms.
EAGLES VS. TIGERS
On Monday the Eagles coasted to a 5-0 win over the host Tigers. Ava Konczal scored twice to lead the Mount Abe attack, and Molly Laurent,Madison Gile and Sarah Heath added a goal apiece.
MUHS goalies Cassie Bettis and Jolee Heffernan combined for 15 saves, but could not prevent their team from slipping to 0-3.
The Eagles had been set to host Colchester on Wednesday.
On Oct. 1 host Rice bested the Tigers, 3-0, holding them to one shot on goal. Belle Brown scored twice as Rice improved to 2-0. Bettis made 14 saves for the Tigers, who fell to 0-2 heading into their Monday clash with Mount Abe.
The Tigers had been ready to travel to Essex on Wednesday.
OTTERS
Also on Oct. 1, OV beat visiting Fair Haven, 3-0, with a three-goal eruption in the fourth quarter. Alice Keith broke the ice, and then Taylor Lampman sealed the victory with a pair of rebound goals. The Otters improved to 1-2 with what was the first varsity coaching win for first-year program head Julie Keith.
The Otters had been set to visit Fair Haven on Wednesday.
