Letter to the editor: Fritz has done a lot for Vergennes

It was disheartening to learn about the antics at the July 16 City Council meeting in Vergennes. How did the comments and behavior of a few do anything to raise up the residents’ self-esteem and project civil civic engagement? What incentive have you created to encourage your fellow citizens to participate in the business of the town?
Since Jeff Fritz’s arrival in Vergennes, he has worked tirelessly to improve the city’s institutions — the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Vergennes, the Opera House, the Bixby Library, and city government, to name a few. He was instrumental in raising the spirits of all with 50 consecutive nights of Clang and Bang, to bring some smiles after COVID-19 forced school closures and event cancellations. He has sought comments from all, whether or not he agreed with them, and also worked with elected and appointed officials for the betterment of the city and the greater Vergennes area.
We need to raise up, not tear down.
