Men’s basketball topples Williams
MIDDLEBURY — The Middlebury College men’s basketball team pulled away in the second half on Saturday to post an 84-66 victory over visiting NESCAC rival Williams.
The Panthers, ranked No. 12 in last week’s NCAA Division III poll, improved to 17-3, 3-2 in league play, good for a third-place tie heading into weekend games at Trinity and Connecticut. Williams dropped to 9-9, 2-3 NESCAC.
Middlebury closed the first half of Saturday’s game with an 8-2 run capped by a Perry DeLorenzo three to lead by six at the break, 39-33.
The Panthers slowly increased the lead to 48-38 as Jack Farrell scored seven points in the first 4:02. Later, a 6-0 spurt gave Middlebury a 70-55 lead at 7:25, and the Panthers cruised home.
Farrell led all players with 21 points, while Tommy Eastman contributed 17 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Matt Folger recorded 15 points and nine boards, and Griffin Kornaker added 14 points and four assists.
Cole Prowitt-Smith led Williams with 13 points, while Henry Feinberg had 12 points and four rebounds.
