FBI files charges against man in Shoreham drug bust

SHOREHAM — At least one of the two out-of-state men arrested on felony cocaine and Fentanyl trafficking charges following a raid on an Addison County home last week is getting his case moved to federal court where stiffer penalties can be imposed.
At around 2:10 a.m. on Oct. 24, Vermont State Police troopers armed with a search warrant raided a home at 255 Lapham Bay Road in Shoreham. Police said they found Fentanyl and cocaine with a combined estimated street value of more than $35,000.
The FBI, working with Vermont State Police, filed a criminal complaint in U.S. District Court against Robert L. Boyd, 32, of Hollywood, Fla., after he was arraigned on state drug charges.
Boyd, who is known as “Lyte,” retained veteran Burlington criminal defense lawyer Robert Sussman as of Tuesday. No date has been set for Boyd’s initial hearing in federal court in Burlington.
State police said they also arrested Angel Stevenson, 30, of The Bronx, N.Y., on the state drug charges stemming from the raid. Only state court charges in Addison County had been filed against him as of Tuesday.
State police said they conducted the raid after they received information about drug trafficking at the home. State Trooper Ryan Gardner, after making a motor vehicle stop for speeding on Route 4A in Rutland Town, seized 14 grams of suspected cocaine base, the FBI said in court papers.
Troopers arrested the unidentified passenger. The unknown driver also agreed to go to the state police office with them, the FBI said. Gardner, Trooper Matthew Hood and others worked to obtain a search warrant about midnight from a judge.
VSP said they found about 18.8 grams of Fentanyl and about 158.3 grams of cocaine. The FBI noted that 25 grams of suspected cocaine were found in a bag on the bed near where Boyd was found by raiding troopers.
FBI Special Agent Colin Simons said a smaller bag was found inside that contained 4.5 grams of suspected heroin and a field test showed fentanyl.
The veteran agent said Stevenson was located in the bathroom, facing the toilet with his hands in it. As Stevenson was removed from the bathroom, troopers located several plastic bags inside the toilet containing what appeared to be controlled substances, Simons wrote. They later tested positive for fentanyl and cocaine.
Both men are held at the Marble Valley Regional Correctional Center: Boyd for lack of $100,000 bail and Stevenson for $25,000.
Rutland City Police, including Officer Nathan Harvey and K-9 Cobalt assisted at the scene.
