Men’s soccer blanks Bantams
MIDDLEBURY — The Middlebury College men’s soccer team blanked NESCAC foe Trinity on Saturday, 3-0, to improve to 7-1-5, 3-1-4 in league play. The Bantams dropped to 1-11, 0-8 NESCAC.
Middlebury will wrap up regular season play by visiting Tufts on Saturday and hosting Williams at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
The Panthers outshot the Bantams this past Saturday, 19-3, and opened the scoring in the 29th minute after a corner kick.
Jacob LaBranche picked up the offering after it sailed past the right post and lofted a short pass back into the box, where Michael McFarlane headed in his first collegiate goal.
Middlebury’s Henry Wilhelm made it 2-0 at 35:44 of the second half. Brandon Reid ran onto a pass and dribbled deep into Bantam territory and centered to Wilhelm, who converted from close range.
Reid closed out the scoring with 3:20 remaining by touching the ball past a defender and firing a low shot into the right corner.
Middlebury goalie Ryan Grady made two saves for his sixth shutout of the season, while Everett Lyons had six stops for Trinity.
