Panther women prevail in Phinney tournament
MIDDLEBURY — Ralph Myhre Golf Course this past weekend was the site of the George Phinney Golf Classic, which was won by the host Middlebury College women’s team.
The Panthers carded a 634 to win by six strokes over second-place Amherst. Panther senior Chloe Levins took home tournament medalist honors for the third time in four years, winning the title in a playoff. Levins shot 153, tying her with Morgan Yurosek of Amherst. Levins parred two holes and won when Yurosek bogeyed the second.
The Panther scorers included Katie Murphy in third at 155 and Blake Yaccino tied for 13th with a 161. Kayla Li was next for the Panthers with a 166, while Anna Zumwinkle shot 170.
In regular weekly play at Ralph Myhre, the team of Dale White, Bert Phinney, Josh Newton and Ric Wheeler won the Wednesday Men’s Scramble on Sept. 25, with the group of Dave Holbrook, Dean George, Joe Forgues, Peter Newton and Bill Cunningham taking second.
In the Friday Evening Mixer on Sept. 27 the quintet of Bryon Emilo, Julia Emilo, Jay Best, Dale White and Jill Jesso-White prevailed, with the quartet of Wes Smith, Gail Smith, Joan Guertin and John Emilo taking second.
