Little league stars split in Vermont tourney

BENNINGTON — The District 1 champion Addison County 8-to-10-year-old Little League All-Star team split two games this past weekend at the state championship tournament and will return to action this Friday in Bennington in an elimination game vs. Essex. Host Bennington is 2-0, having defeated Connecticut Valley and Essex.
AC opened this past Saturday with a 6-3 loss to Essex in which a rally from an early 5-0 deficit came up short. The team then bounced back to knock off Connecticut Valley, 15-4.
On Saturday Levi Nuceder doubled twice and drove in two runs to key the comeback, and Cam Castillo singled in a run. Abe Ready scored two runs for AC, while Stefan Johnson took the pitching loss.
On Sunday Connecticut Valley scored twice in the top of the first inning, but AC scored four in the bottom half of the inning in a rally keyed by a Johnson double. Castillo allowed only two more runs as AC cruised to the win.
Nuceder and Zavier Barnes each had a hit, walked twice and scored three runs, while Johnson had two hits and scored twice.  Cam Castillo allowed six hits, struck out five and walked none.
