Letter to the editor: Hallquist is a ‘fighter’ and forward-thinking politician

I am voting for Christine Hallquist for Governor of Vermont because: she is a proven leader, which was shown through her leadership of Vermont Electric Coop in northern Vermont; she is brave, which has been shown during her transgender transition; she is smart, which has been shown by her many forward-looking proposals to lead Vermont; and she is a fighter and has fought and won harder battles than the one against Phil Scott.
She supports: public education in Vermont and will work with teachers and local communities; Universal Health Care for all Vermonters; raising the minimum hourly wage to $15; connecting every home and business with fiber optic cable; and leading Vermont on the path to 90 percent renewable energy by 2050. Christine is passionate about her love of Vermont and her desire to make it a better place for all people to live.
At a recent debate between Christine and Phil Scott, our current governor stated, “If you want single payer in Vermont, don’t vote for me.” He also came out swinging against raising the minimum wage and other policies that most Vermonters support. At the end of the last legislative session, Scott vetoed many of the initiatives that the legislature had been working on and passed during the session.
Christine said she would have signed bills to: tax and regulate marijuana, raise the hourly minimum wage to $15 an hour, and provide for paid family leave. As Bernie stated recently: “If we turn out in record numbers and our grassroots movement works as hard as it can for Christine, Vermont will be the example to the rest of America of what our democracy should be all about.”
