Sheldon Museum hosts live webinar on collage art

Thinking of place as an archive is fertile terrain for collage artists who seek to incorporate a sense of place into their practice.

The Henry Sheldon Museum has announced that after a national search, Allison LaCroix Hayes has been hired as the museum’s new collections manager. She started her work remotely in September and in-person in late October.

The Henry Sheldon Museum invites the public and Sheldon Museum members to its virtual annual meeting featuring special guest speaker Christopher Kaufman Ilstrup, executive director of Vermont Humanities.

This past spring Stephanie Skenyon began her tenure as executive director of Middlebury’s Henry Sheldon Museum of Vermont History. She succeeds Bill Brooks, who retired earlier this year.

The Sheldon Museum in Middlebury will host Spooky Night at the Museum, an evening of pre-Halloween entertainment, on Friday, Oct. 28, from 5-7:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. 

This Saturday, Oct. 22 at noon, there will be a gallery presentation “Landscape and Community: From Archive to Hyperfolio” at the Sheldon Museum by collage artist, Todd Bartel.

A new exhibit, “Artists in the Archives: Community, History & Collage” will be on view at the Sheldon Museum Sept. 2 through Jan. 7.

Four collectors who lent objects to the Sheldon Museum’s current exhibit, “Addison County Collects,” will share stories about their collections with the community in the Henry Sheldon Museum’s barn on Aug. 31 at noon.

The Henry Sheldon Museum welcomes Beau Harris, Collections Manager at the Fairbanks Museum for a virtual talk, “Bug Art at the Fairbanks Museum,” on Friday, Aug. 12, at noon.

On Friday, July 22, the Sheldon Museum’s garden will be filled with music beginning at 5 p.m., as part of the Museum’s Summer Fridays Series.

Professor Ellery Foutch will present “Chasing Butterflies: American Artists’ Pursuit of Natural History,” on Friday, July 15, at noon, in the Sheldon Museum Barn.

For the fifth year running the Henry Sheldon Museum is holding a picnic basket raffle as a fundraiser for the museum. Six local artists have hand-painted picnic baskets in their signature styles.

In “Curating as Praxis: Shattering the Myth of Neutrality,” La Tanya S. Autry discusses dismantling oppressive forces through applying knowledge to real world conditions in museums.

The Henry Sheldon Museum presents a lecture by curator Ric Kasini Kadour on April 13, at 7 p.m.,  via Zoom.
