Letter to the editor: Timber harvesting strategy steeped in good reasons

I’m writing to express my dismay at the misinformation again being spread about the Telephone Gap timber project. Timber harvesting on the Green Mountain National Forest is good for Vermont and the environment.

Gambling has been unleashed. Apparently, there aren’t enough existing addictions. So, why not search for more ways to make life miserable for those who already struggle? We’re good at promoting and underfunding destructive behavior.

I was pleased to see in the March 28 publication that the Addison Independent was named New England’s top weekly newspaper. I feel well informed by the various articles and appreciate all the work put in. However…

The Friends of Cornwall School would like to thank everyone who helped make our second annual Town Meeting Breakfast on Saturday, March 2, a success.

There are two bills currently in the Vermont legislature, Bill H.626 — An Act Related to Animal Welfare — and S.258 — An Act Relating to the Management of Fish and Wildlife.

The legislative breakfast held at Shoreham Congregational Church with only one Addison County Legislator, Senator Chris Bray present. Shame on the rest!

Our next, and last, Legislative Breakfast will be held in Weybridge on Monday, 8 April. Let’s have some of our representatives there!

Although the fish and wildlife of Vermont are held in trust by the state for the benefit of all citizens, the board currently consists only of hunters, trappers, and/or anglers.
