Triathlons draw more than 300 to season finale

Moretown’s Lance Parker and Burlington’s Elsa Chinburg were tops among more than 300 athletes entered in two Vermont Sun triathlons on Sunday.

For the past 30 years, Wayne and Diane Smith’s light show has been a hallmark of the holiday season in Addison County.

It’s not everyone who is fit enough to swim across the widest part of Lake Dunmore, but it’s far more rare to be able to swim that distance in open water at age 88.

Saturday’s beautiful early summer weather welcomed more than 150 athletes to Branbury State Park in Salisbury for two Vermont Sun triathlon races — a sprint triathlon and Olympic distance triathlon, which were designated as state championship races.

On two hot days Faith and family loaded up two vehicles with assorted children, grandparents, a deflated kayak and paddleboard, and a portable pump, and headed out to Branbury Beach State Park on Lake Dunmore.
