MAV girls’ lax strong in playoffs, exits in semis

The Vergennes/Mount Abe girls’ lacrosse team saw their run in the Division II playoffs come to an end on Tuesday when the Commodores lost to hose U-32, 11-6, in a semifinal game.

The Middlebury Union High School girls’ lacrosse team was awarded the No. 10 seed for the Division I playoffs and lost an 8-7 heartbreaker at No. 7 Burlington in a first-round game on May 31.

No. 3 MUHS boys’ lacrosse team controlled most of its Friday quarterfinal to defeat No. 6 Essex, 13-10, in the fourth straight Division I playoff battle between the two programs.

The Mount Abraham-Vergennes cooperative boys’ high school lacrosse team on Saturday concluded the program’s most successful regular season — including those of the separate Mt. Abe and VUHS squads that preceded MAV — by defeating visiting Randolph, 12-1. 

The 11-4 Middlebury Union High School boys’ lacrosse team earned the No. 3 seed for the Division I playoffs and will host a Friday quarterfinal against No. 6 Essex (8-8) at 4:30 p.m.

The Middlebury Union High School girls’ lacrosse team was awarded the No. 10 seed for the Division I playoffs and was set to visit No. 7 Burlington for a first-round Division I playoff game on Wednesday.

The Mount Abraham-Vergennes cooperative girls’ high school lacrosse team earned the No. 3 seed in Division II with a 9-5 regular season record and will open its title quest on Friday at 4:30 p.m. with a home quarterfinal.

The Mount Abraham-Vergennes cooperative boys’ lacrosse team maintained its winning ways between May 17 and 23, earning three victories, all against Division II teams, to remain in the thick of the race for the top seed in D-III.

The Tigers never trailed, but they never put away a team they defeated by 17-2 in Woodstock a month ago, and when given the chance the Wasps rallied with three straight fourth-quarter goals to force overtime.
