Letter to the editor: Voter registration key to preserving democracy

I am a concerned voter in Addison County. I believe that all citizens who are 18 or over should have the right to vote and I am doing all I can to help in that effort.

I may only be writing this letter with half a brain according to Salisbury’s Bruce Acciavatti. If you read the nastiness of his letter, it shows that his political party cannot reach across the aisle for compromise.

Though a second term for Donald Trump should be unthinkable, it seems possible that he could win a narrow victory if enough traditionally Democratic voters refuse to vote for Joe Biden.  

As I introduce myself as Esther Charlestin, a candidate for your next governor, I am met with skepticism. “Who do you think you are?” “Where did you come from?” “Why are you here?” 

I would like to thank the voters of Middlebury for turning out at the Town Meeting elections and to thank those that supported my candidacy for selectboard.

The lakefront town of Addison this year boasts the highest per capita interest in running for office in Addison County, with nine candidates vying for three selectboard seats, including three incumbents. 

Lincoln’s Town Meeting Day ballot will feature two contested races for openings on the town’s selectboard. 

The recent oversight in the town of Addison’s election process, failure to remember selectmen’s terms, was unfortunate. However, if I read the Vermont statute correctly, the selectman… “serves until a successor is elected.”

Town Meeting Day voting in Bristol will feature a two-way race to fill an open seat on town’s selectboard, as incumbent and current selectboard vice chair Darla Senecal will not run to keep her two-year seat after March 5.
