Ayer, Bray eye leadership post

MONTPELIER — A second state senator plans to run for the top leadership post next year.

Sen. Christopher Bray, D-New Haven, said Tuesday he would seek the position of Senate president pro tempore for the next legislative session. The current Senate president, John Campbell, has said he will not run for re-election to the Senate this fall.

MIDDLEBURY — Town Hall Theater and Middlebury Mountaineer are happy to announce the return of the Fly Fishing Film Tour on Friday, April 8, at 7:30 p.m. Now entering its 10th year, the Fly Fishing Film Tour (F3T) has become the entertainment event of the year for America’s diverse fishing community. In 2015 the film tour screened in over 160 North American cities and provided a venue to showcase some of the country’s best independent outdoor filmmakers.

A low-snow winter results in savings for area towns

ADDISON COUNTY — When it comes to the economy, Mother Nature giveth and she taketh away.

The almost snow-free winter of 2015-2016 has cost area ski resorts thousands of dollars in lost revenues, but has saved the state of Vermont and municipal public works departments an avalanche of money that would have been spent on overtime, sand and salt expenses during an average winter.

Middlebury opens new town office

MIDDLEBURY — Monday ushered in a new era for Middlebury municipal employees, who began working in the new, expansive town office building at 77 Main St. And on Tuesday, those workers were still pinching themselves as they settled into a facility that was more than a decade in the making.

“It doesn’t seem real quite yet,” a beaming Beth Dow said from her sumptuous office on the second floor of the stately structure.

Porter offers options to patients about to lose their physician

MIDDLEBURY — Porter Medical Center officials are reaching out to the scores of patients who will be affected by the announced closing of the Porter Internal Medicine (PIM) practice.

Porter Medical Center Interim CEO Dr. Fred Kniffin confirmed the closing at Porter’s annual meeting held on Wednesday, March 30. He sent a letter this week to PIM patients elaborating on the move.
