Mount Abe board mulls options, seeks input

BRISTOL — The Mount Abraham Union High School board took its first crack at developing a new budget proposal for the Bristol school Tuesday evening after voters in the five-town area rejected the initial draft on Town Meeting Day.

While board members did not decide whether to create a budget that is more or less expensive than the original spending plan, they did decide to solicit input from voters and staff to help make up their minds.

Bristol School Board wants voter feedback on school spending

BRISTOL — Three-dozen parents, teachers and community members packed the Bristol Elementary School library Monday evening to give their input to the school board on how it should draft a new budget proposal.

But board members did not discuss spending numbers that could appear in that proposal or set a date for citizens to vote on it.

Voters on Town Meeting Day rejected the original spending plan, which totaled $4.93 million, by a tally of 377 to 267.

City council picks Perry as senior alderman

VERGENNES — In addition to deciding to move ahead with a city park for preschoolers, Vergennes aldermen at their meeting Tuesday evening also:

•Elected Renny Perry as senior alderman. Perry will stand in as mayor if needed at meetings when Mayor Bill Benton is absent. Randy Ouellette held the post in recent years, but chose not to run for another term.

Chuchi Veguez recognized for 'changing the world'

Builders invited to share issues on energy efficiency

MIDDLEBURY — Why does it cost so much to build a new energy efficient house, and what’s up with all of these crazy insulation details?

People who are involved in the building trades are often asked these questions, and some of them ask these questions themselves.

Vermont Integrated Architecture, a Middlebury design and planning firm, is inviting area builders and architects to its “Roundtable for Residential Building Professionals” on March 25 to discuss such questions in an open, roundtable format.

Economic development pitches to be heard in Middlebury

MIDDLEBURY — Addison County Economic Development Corp. (ACEDC) announces that Lt. Gov. Phil Scott is coming to Middlebury to hear from Addison County businesses, educators, students, local governments, social service agencies and others about prospects for improving Vermont’s economy.

Scott has been hosting a series of what he calls “economic pitch sessions” around the state, at which people present their ideas for economic prosperity.

Art Beat for July 7: Festival to offer great music all week plus dancing

Sarah Blacker, Boston’s “Sundress Rocker,” comes back to Brandon Music for a release party for her new album, “In Waves,” on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. before embarking on a national tour. The album is Blacker’s strongest songwriting and playing to date. The songs artfully span rock, pop, indie, folk and Americana fused together with her signature vocal sound and stacked vocal harmonies.
