Vandals hit Bristol town green

BRISTOL — Bristol police on Friday were looking for the person or people who defaced the prominent features of the town park in the heart of Bristol village late last week.

On Thursday, Sept. 6, between 1-8 a.m., someone spray painted graffiti on the play structure, bandstand and memorial rock (pictured, left) at Bristol Town Park. There were 12 different “tags,” police reported.

Anyone with information on this crime is asked to contact the Bristol Police Department at 802-453-2533.

Lincoln man pleads in assault case

MIDDLEBURY — A Lincoln man on Aug. 3 pleaded innocent in Addison Superior Court, criminal division, to a felony charge of sexual assault, in connection with an alleged incident with a woman while she was nursing a child.

Charles Norton, 53, faces a potential jail term of three years to life and a fine of up to $25,000 if convicted on the charge, relating to a case dating back to Aug. 9, 2016.

Affidavits tell backstory of alleged Vergennes robber

BURLINGTON — A Texas man who police say stole more than $6,000 during a stick-up at a Vergennes market as part of a cross country armed robbery spree pleaded not guilty in U.S. District Court in Burlington last week.

Mark Triolo, 46, was shot by police in Brattleboro on May 4, three days after the armed holdup at the Small City Market in Vergennes.

Triolo also is a suspect in two armed robberies in Southern Vermont both within an hour before the shooting by Brattleboro and Vermont State Police, records show.

Middlebury Police Log: Massachusetts man cited for simple assault

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police cited a 20-year-old Massachusetts man for simple assault, stemming from an alleged incident on Middlebury College campus on April 7. Police said the man is scheduled to be arraigned on April 23. (Editor's note: The man's name is not published here because he successfully completed Court Diversion.)

Vergennes Police Log: Arguing sisters calmed four times by police

VERGENNES — Four times between April 4 and 8 Vergennes police were called to a West Main Street residence to calm arguing sisters.

At the first visit on April 4 city police helped family members make plans for one of the sisters to move out on April 7, including removing all her possessions. On April 5 and 6 police calmed disputes between the two women.

Vermont State Police Log: Drunk driving with suspended license leads local action

ADDISON COUNTY— Shortly after 7 p.m. on March 25 Vermont State Police observed a motor vehicle violation and stopped a car on Tyler Bridge Road in Monkton.

Troopers said they found the driver, identified as 48-year-old Wight Manning of Charlotte, was operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license. Further investigation showed that Manning was driving under the influence of alcohol, police claimed.

Middlebury Police Log: Local man held on $1,000 bail after domestic assault

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police cited Glenn Fowler, 54, of Middlebury for domestic assault, stemming from an alleged incident in the Halladay Road area on April 1.

Police said Fowler was lodged that evening for lack of $1,000 bail.

•  Referred to state police on March 26 an allegation that a Middlebury Union Middle School student was being exposed to drugs at a friend’s house.

Bristol Police Log: Minor charged with lewd and lacivious conduct in public

BRISTOL — On Thursday, March 15, Bristol police arrested a 17-year-old male for lewd and lascivious conduct, following a complaint about an act witnessed in public.

The suspect, whose name was withheld because of the ages of the parties involved, was released and ordered to appear in Addison Superior Court, Criminal Division.

Between March 12 and March 25, Bristol police completed 40 foot and car patrols at various locations, namely on Mountain Street, Main Street and surrounding areas including near Bristol Elementary School.

Man gets busted for DUI twice in one day in Bristol

BRISTOL — Local police worked with Vermont State Police to arrest a man in Bristol on March 10 — twice in one day.

On Friday, March 10, at around 1:31 a.m. police were called to Main Street on a report that Joshua Bley, 36, had approached a woman on the sidewalk and shouted at her from his vehicle. Bley, who was described by Bristol police as an Oregon resident and by state police as a Lincoln resident, allegedly yelled out to the female, “Don’t be afraid, don’t be afraid,” and attempted to engage her in conversation.
