Vergennes Police Log: Welfare checks, alleged harassment

Incidents that required action from Vergennes police between April 1 and 7 included several welfare checks, alleged harassment by an ex-boyfriend, and an investigation of an untimely death. Police also received reports from parents of unfortunate incidents for informational purposes, including one from the parent of a Vergennes Union Elementary School student.

This past Sunday, April 7, Vermont State Police responded to a disturbance on States Prison Hollow Road in Starksboro at around 9:20 a.m. Trooper investigated and said they determined that Chase Gibbs-Emilo, 25, of Starksboro assaulted a family member. 

Middlebury police cited Beau A. Lyons, 42, of Middlebury following their investigation of an alleged domestic disturbance in the Kings Row area on April 2.

Robert E. Bowdish, 77, of Weybridge pleaded innocent on Monday to seven felony and two misdemeanor counts of possession of child sexual abuse material, the Vermont Attorney General’s Office announced. He was arraigned in Addison Superior Court, Criminal D … (read more)

According to court records, police arrested Santiago on Jan. 5, 2022, after he had set fire to a vehicle at 40 Booth Woods in Vergennes at around 5 that morning.

Vermont State Police dealt with several problems on Addison County highways this past week, as well as investigated a domestic assault case.

Middlebury police cited Cormick Cantwell, 40, who is unhoused, for disorderly conduct via electronic means, following an investigation into what police called “an excessive number of abusive calls” to local dispatchers on March 25.

A Middlebury man is being held without bail after pleading innocent to charges he attempted to kill a Middlebury College student in a knife attack on College Street this past Wednesday, March 20.

On Wednesday, March 20, at about 7:30 a.m., Vermont State Police responded to a report of a two-car crash on Route 7 at the intersection with Route 22A in Ferrisburgh.

Middlebury police cited Jerry L. Hoffman, 31, of Middlebury for attempted murder, after he allegedly stabbed a man multiple times during an incident on College Street during the early evening of March 20.

Bristol police on March 15 received a report of an altercation between juveniles at the Bristol Town Green. Police are investigating the incident. 

Police say a Jerry L. Hoffman randomly attacked a couple then was chased into Otter Creek. One victim is at UVM Medical Center, Hoffman is in jail.

Between March 11 and 17 Vergennes police handled a variety of incidents, including looking into allegations of contractor fraud and simple assault, and directing traffic around a disabled truck downtown.
