Little Free Library is OK'd for Bristol green

BRISTOL — Bristol will soon join Hanoi, Vietnam; Chandigarh, India; Auckland, New Zealand; and over 30,000 other spots around the globe in hosting a Little Free Library.

The Bristol Planning Commission on Oct. 20 unanimously approved the Lawrence Memorial Library/Addison County Readers proposal to place a Little Free Library at the playground on the town green.

Mt. Abe vice chair resigns from school board

BRISTOL — Mount Abraham Union Middle/High School board Vice Chair Shawna Sherwin announced her resignation from the MAUHS board, with a letter to Addison Northeast Supervisory Union Board Chair Dawn Griswold, dated Oct. 20.

Sherwin’s is the third school board resignation for ANeSU this fall and the fourth since summer, and came the same day as the ANeSU Executive Committee OK’d a separation agreement with embattled Superintendent David Adams.

ANeSU approves separation from Superintendent Adams

BRISTOL — The Addison Northeast Supervisory Union is now just a few steps and mere days away from ending David Adams’s tenure as its superintendent.

On Tuesday evening, the ANeSU Executive Committee voted unanimously to approve the employment separation agreement between the Bristol-area school district and Adams that calls for paying him more than $80,000 in salary, severance and other compensation.

The committee also authorized Chair Dawn Griswold to “execute the agreement and related documents to implement the agreement.”

Five-town fire departments to hold food drive

BRISTOL — The Bristol Fire Department, in conjunction with the fire departments of Lincoln, Monkton, New Haven and Starksboro, will conduct a town-wide food drive on Saturday, Oct. 24, from 9 a.m.-noon. The theme, once again, is “Help Us Fill the Firehouse.”

ANESU takes steps to separate superintendent from the school district

BRISTOL — At its meeting last Tuesday, Oct. 13, the Addison Northeast Supervisory Union school board took important steps toward hiring an interim superintendent.

The board had voted at its Sept. 29 meeting to reassign Superintendent David Adams’s duties to Assistant Superintendent Catrina DiNapoli, and she has been carrying out those duties and responsibilities ever since. The board chair said at that time that Adams “has been and continues to be on FMLA (Family and Medical Leave Act) leave,” but did not say when that leave started.

Bristol seeks resident to fill school board vacancy

BRISTOL — The Bristol Elementary School Board is seeking a Bristol resident interested in serving on the five-member board.

Terri Mayer Thomsen, appointed in September to replace Sheryl Thurber, has recently resigned. Addison Notheast Supervisory Union officials did not say why Thomsen resigned. Her term will expire in March.

Bristol ready to break ground on new firehouse

BRISTOL — Just under a year ago, a grim engineering report on the state of Bristol’s 1897 fire station ignited the town to redouble its efforts to rehouse the town’s firefighters in a safe and efficient modern facility.

Builders are slated to break ground in less than two weeks on a new firehouse on a 9-acre parcel on the south side of West Street near the entrance to the Bristol recreation fields.

Five-town Arts seeks grants applicants

The Community Grants program helps to fund experiences and events in the fine arts, performing arts, history and other cultural experiences to enrich the lives of people living in Monkton, New Haven, Bristol, Lincoln and Starksboro.

Mt. Abe teens promote seat belts

BRISTOL — Members of the Mount Abraham Union High School Vermont Teen Leadership Safety Program reminded drivers and passengers arriving at school on Sept. 30 to buckle up for safety.

In addition to observing and counting the rate of seatbelt use, the students gave out “tickets” to anyone who was not buckled up and rewarded those wearing safety belts with a treat and a “thank you.”
