Bristol Police Log: Police look into reported assault

BRISTOL — On Oct. 1, at 7:41 p.m., Bristol police responded to the report of an assault on a female in the parking lot Champlain Farms on West Street. The suspect, Lawrence F. Bloom, 32, of Fort Wayne, Ind., fled the scene before police arrived.

Later that evening, Bloom is alleged to have attempted to rob a Jiffy Mart on Kennedy Drive in South Burlington and, after that, to have created another disturbance at a Maplefields on Williston Road.

Mount Abe district officials to host community meetings

BRISTOL — The Mount Abraham Unified School District (MAUSD) board on Monday, Oct. 22, will kick off a series of community meetings to get members of the Five-Town public more involved with their schools.

The event will take place from 6 – 8:45 p.m., at Holley Hall in Bristol. An informal mixer and two short board presentations will be followed by a facilitated discussion focused on upcoming budget issues and community priorities.

The new unified board’s goal is to establish a positive foundation for community engagement.

Mt. Abe soccer girls' streak continues at MUHS

MIDDLEBURY — The surging Mount Abraham Union High School girls’ soccer team pitched its third straight shutout on Tuesday, this time at Middlebury in a 4-0 victory.

The Eagles have won three straight to move over .500 at 6-5-2 and into eighth place in Division II in the Vermont Principals’ Association point standings with one game to go.

Pulling strings in Bristol: Artisan turns weather-beaten redwood into guitars

BRISTOL — In 2012, when the University of Vermont dismantled its Centennial Field soccer bleachers, it sold off thousands of feet of weather-beaten redwood planks. Bristol luthier Micah Plante got the chance to pick through about 300 of those planks and selected just eight. Now, slice by 3/32-inch slice and curve by curve, he’s turning the redwood into acoustic and electric guitars.

Two jailed after family argument in Bristol

BRISTOL — Two Bristol men were jailed Thursday night following a family argument at which police alleged one shot a gun, the other assaulted a family member, and both lied to law enforcement.

Harley Allen, 19, held at the Chittenden Regional Correctional Facility due to lack of $15,000 bail, and Anthony Miller, 20, was held on $200 bail.

'Skiing for Scholars' program offered to Bristol, Lincoln kids

BRISTOL/LINCOLN — The Mad River Glen Cooperative has received a $15,000 grant to offer free skiing to students in both the Mount Abraham and Washington West school districts. The grant that will fund the “Skiing For Scholars Program” was donated by the Reed Family Foundation as part of the co-op’s Preserve Our Paradise Capital Campaign.

Matt Lillard, Mad River Glen’s general manager, said this money will help make skiing a reality for more youngsters.

Bristol Police Log: Man stopped after seen smoking pot while driving

BRISTOL — On Sept. 21, at 5:07 p.m., Bristol police arrested Brian G. Warner, 45, of Rutland and cited him for violating conditions of release and driving under the influence of drugs.

Warner, whose release conditions, stemming from a pending DUI drugs arrest, prohibited him from buying, having or using regulated drugs without a valid prescription, was stopped after an officer said he observed him consuming marijuana while operating a vehicle on Lincoln Road.

Red Cross to hold blood draw in Bristol on Oct. 26

BRISTOL — October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and the American Red Cross says that makes it the perfect time to give blood or platelets to support cancer patients and others.

Bristol will host a blood donations site on Friday, Oct. 26, 11 a.m. - 4 p.m., at Mountain Health Center, 74 Munsill Ave.

Bank volunteers help out in Bristol

BRISTOLCommunity Bank N.A. branches across New York, Pennsylvania, Vermont and Massachusetts celebrated National Good Neighbor Day on Sept. 28, by engaging in neighborly activities and donating to community causes.

In total, Community Bank N.A. donated $55,250 to local nonprofits throughout its four-state footprint, with 32 branches across New England contributing $8,000 to local nonprofits of their choice.
