Bristol Police Log: Man stopped after seen smoking pot while driving

BRISTOL — On Sept. 21, at 5:07 p.m., Bristol police arrested Brian G. Warner, 45, of Rutland and cited him for violating conditions of release and driving under the influence of drugs.

Warner, whose release conditions, stemming from a pending DUI drugs arrest, prohibited him from buying, having or using regulated drugs without a valid prescription, was stopped after an officer said he observed him consuming marijuana while operating a vehicle on Lincoln Road.

Red Cross to hold blood draw in Bristol on Oct. 26

BRISTOL — October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and the American Red Cross says that makes it the perfect time to give blood or platelets to support cancer patients and others.

Bristol will host a blood donations site on Friday, Oct. 26, 11 a.m. - 4 p.m., at Mountain Health Center, 74 Munsill Ave.

Bank volunteers help out in Bristol

BRISTOLCommunity Bank N.A. branches across New York, Pennsylvania, Vermont and Massachusetts celebrated National Good Neighbor Day on Sept. 28, by engaging in neighborly activities and donating to community causes.

In total, Community Bank N.A. donated $55,250 to local nonprofits throughout its four-state footprint, with 32 branches across New England contributing $8,000 to local nonprofits of their choice.

House, Senate hopefuls to spar at Oct. 17 debate

BRISTOL — Voters will get a chance to learn about candidates on the Nov. 6 ballot at the Addison County Chamber of Commerce and Addison County Economic Development Corporation’s candidates forum in Bristol next Wednesday. The Oct. 17 forum will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at Mount Abraham Union High School.

Tim Buskey, a familiar voice at the Grange legislative breakfasts, will moderate the event.

The Oct. 17 event is at 220 Airport Road in Bristol. It will feature candidates for the state Senate and for the Addison 4 and 5 House districts.

Commodore girls' soccer edges Mt. Abe

BRISTOL — Three minutes into Friday’s high school girls’ soccer game at Mount Abraham, Vergennes Union High School senior midfielder Ciara McClay stood over a free kick about 25 yards from the Eagle goal.

Commodore Co-Coach Pete Maneen shouted some advice to the player he and her teammates often call “C.”

“Follow through, C,” Maneen yelled. “Follow through.”

Eagle field hockey keeps rolling, blanks Tigers

BRISTOL — The Mount Abraham Union High School field hockey team remained on a roll this past Thursday, this time at visiting Middlebury’s expense.

The improving Tigers battled the Eagles, but could not stop their hosts from remaining unbeaten with their 4-0 victory.

In boys' soccer, VUHS tips Eagles; all teams win at least one

ADDISON COUNTY — Vergennes knocked off host Mount Abraham on Saturday to stretch the Commodores’ winning streak to five games and highlight local high school boys’ soccer play late last week.

In other action the Commodores, Eagles, Middlebury and Otter Valley all picked up wins.

Bristol, New Haven land generous bequests

ADDISON COUNTY — Two county towns are wondering what to do with a windfall after receiving large bequests from a late resident.

The estate of longtime Bristol resident Andrew Johnson recently notified the town of Bristol that it would receive $103,008.83, and the town of New Haven was told it will get $34,336.28.

Bristol is where Johnson once served as a selectman and where his family’s business, A. Johnson Lumber Co., is located. He also served on the Addison Regional Planning Commission and the Mount Abraham Union High School board.

Milton topples Eagle football

MILTON — The host Milton High School football team on Friday outlasted Mount Abraham/Vergennes, 21-12, as the Eagles played another competitive Division II game but again came up short. 

Eagle rushers Kevin Pearsall (176 yards, two touchdowns) and Nevin Jamison (75) combined for 251 yards rushing, but the visitors still managed only 12 points.

Field hockey: Tigers win, Mt Abe ties

ADDISON COUNTY — In high school field hockey play late last week Middlebury picked up its first win, Mount Abraham earned a road tie, and Otter Valley dropped a game to a fellow Division II contender. 

TIGERS

On Saturday the Tigers blanked visiting U-32, 4-0, to improve to 1-5. Maeve Hammel’s hat trick sparked the Tigers. Phoebe Smith also scored, Aby LaRock set up two goals, and Olivia Audet had one assist. Tiger goalie Ileigh Aube worked a four-save shutout, while Abigail Latour made 15 saves for U32 (2-5).
