Bristol man wins Stowe race Todd Smith_Overall Winner.jpg

TODD SMITH OF Bristol cruises down the Stowe bike path on Sunday on his way to winning the inaugural Vermont 10 Miler. Smith ran faster than 6-minutes per mile on the challenging, hilly course. Winooski resident Heidi Caldwell, who was second in the Middlebury Maple Run this past May, took the top female spot in the Stowe race, which featured nearly 900 competitors.

Hip-hop artists bring Food for Thought fundraising tour to Middlebury

Two of Vermont’s prominent Hip Hop artists are embarking on a month long tour around New England to raise money for local food shelves. Jarv (from Windsor) and Mister Burns (from Burlington) will be coming to Two Brothers Tavern in Middlebury on Friday, Nov. 10. The show starts at 10 p.m.

Rokeby director to give talk on abolitionists Nov. 14

VERGENNES — Long before the Civil War commenced, another war was taking place in the U.S. Historian and Rokeby Museum director Jane Williamson will give an illustrated presentation on the philosophies, strategies, and tactics of the 1830s abolitionists of Vermont on Nov 14, at 7 p.m., at Bixby Memorial Library. The talk will compare the efforts of Vermont abolitionists with those of earlier antislavery movements and explore their impacts on American society.

Ladies' Night Out Chorus comes to Middlebury Nov. 14

This Tuesday at 7:30 p.m., the Rutland-based Ladies Night Out Women’s Chorus will present their 8th annual concert in Middlebury at the Champlain Valley Unitarian Universalist Church. This year’s concert is titled “Searching for Something Greater,” with special guest Heidi Soons, a harpist with the Vermont Symphony Orchestra.

Over 20 women from the Rutland area and beyond make up this women’s chorus, with Lucy Allen Tenenbaum conducting and rehearsal accompanist Lisa Knickerbocker Sears.

Vermont State Police Log: Man eludes police after two incidents of vandalism

ADDISON COUNTY — Patrick Brace, 53, faces multiple charges resulting from several incidents that Vermont State Police investigated on Halloween.

Before noon on Oct. 31, troopers were called to a report of vandalism in Monkton, and while on the way to Monkton received a separate report of vandalism in Bristol.

Vergennes Police Log: City police deal with alcohol-related issues

VERGENNES — A number of alcohol-related incidents, including issuing citations for driving under the influence of alcohol and helping Vermont State Police process DUI cases at the city station, helped keep Vergennes police busy between Oct. 23 and Nov. 5.

On Oct. 24 backed up VSP at a DUI stop on Monkton Road in Ferrisburgh. That stop resulted in state police citing a 33-year-old Bridport man for drunk driving.

Bristol Police Log: Police lead active shooter training for emergency services

BRISTOL — On Oct. 24 two Bristol police officers led a training seminar on active shooter response for Addison County emergency services.

Meanwhile, Bristol police conducted foot patrol downtown on Oct. 23, 24, 25, 26 and 27; on Oct. 25 an officer secured one building. Police foot patrols at Bristol Elementary School and nearby areas took place each day from Oct. 23 to 27; and security checks of Mount Abraham Union High School occurred daily Oct. 23 to 29 except the 27th.

Police offices completed fingerprint requests on Oct. 17, 24, 25 and 27.
