Panther tennis players win titles

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — Middlebury College men’s tennis player Lubomir Cuba became the first Panther in the program’s history to win the NCAA Division III singles title on Saturday morning, and also teamed up with William de Quant to win the program’s first doubles crown later in the day.

Matches took place at the Champions Club Tennis Complex at Rivermont Park in Chattanooga, Tenn.

Tiger girls fall in D-I tennis; boys No. 8

MIDDLEBURY — Host Spaulding knocked the Middlebury Union High School girls’ tennis team out of the Division I postseason on Tuesday, 4-3.

The 8-4 Tiger boys’ tennis team earned the No. 8 seed in D-I and were set to host No. 9 Stowe (7-4) on Thursday after a Wednesday postponement. The teams did not play one another this spring

On Tuesday, the Tiger girls finished at 4-9, while the Tide improved to 13-2. In individual matches:

•  At No. 1 singles, Lizzie Tchantouridze (S) defeated Claire Wulfman (M), 6-1, 6-1.

Vermont State Police Log: County men cited for speeding, DUI

ADDISON COUNTY — Vermont State Police cited Addison County men for a second offense of driving under the influence in three separate incidents last week. Two of the incidents also involved speeding.

Middlebury Police Log: Police investigate disturbance

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police investigated a reported domestic disturbance in the South Street Extension area on May 27.

A witness reported hearing people crying and screeching tires. Police interviewed a woman connected with the incident who said she had had a verbal argument with her boyfriend.

In other action last week, Middlebury police:

•  Assisted Middlebury firefighters with an alarm at the TJ Maxx store off Court Street Extension on May 22.

Vergennes Police Log: Quiet week for Little City force

VERGENNES — In an otherwise mostly quiet seven days between May 22 and 28, Vergennes police issued two citations for impaired driving.

On May 23 while in the East Middlebury area on a grant-funded Click It Or Ticket detail, they cited Kimberly A. LaFave, 54, of Salisbury for driving under the influence of drugs after stopping her vehicle on Route 7 in Salisbury.

Vermont State Police Log: Driving violations net a DUI charge

ADDISON COUNTY — A Vermont State Police trooper reports that he saw a motor vehicle commit violations while driving on Route 7 in Ferrisburgh at 1:30 a.m. on May 12; so he stopped the car.

While speaking with the driver, identified as 56-year-old Craig Lesage of Essex Junction, the trooper observed several signs of impairment.

Middlebury Police Log: Bristol woman cited for domestic assault

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police cited Stephanie L. Dugan, 33, of Bristol for domestic assault, after she allegedly struck a family member in the Court Street area on May 12.

In other action last week, Middlebury police:

•  Investigated a suspected break-in at a Court Street apartment on May 8. Police said the tenant believes someone got into her home through a window via a fire escape. The tenant is searching her home to see if anything is missing.

Bristol Police Log: Altercation with kids ends in DUI citation

BRISTOL — On Saturday, May 6, at approximately 11:35 p.m. Bristol police officers were dispatched to the area of West and South streets for a reported suspicious incident. Apparently, a man had been involved in a verbal altercation with several juveniles on West Street and had reportedly left the area driving a red SUV. It was reported the man appeared intoxicated.

Investigation led police to the residence of Traven Cage Jerome, 21, of Bristol, where they located a vehicle matching the description.
