New Haven takes regulator to court over solar array

Bristol Republican in race for county's two Senate seats

MIDDLEBURY — For an unusual school project this year, 11-year-old Declan Anderson sponsored two cats at Homeward Bound, the Addison County Humane Society. His specific mission — spending time with both Molly and Cleo, 12-year-old sisters, until they were adopted.

Anderson had spotted the pair of felines during his regular visits to Homeward Bound, temporary home to scores of cats, dogs and other animals seeking homes.

MIDDLEBURY — It’s not a stretch to say that diesel power technology teacher Phil Teer’s name has become synonymous with the Patricia A. Hannaford Career Center. They practically built the walls around him when the Middlebury vocational-technical education school opened its doors more than four decades ago.

“He was original equipment when the center first opened in 1971,” Career Center Executive Director Lynn Coale likes to say.

Mount Abe's married athletic directors made job-share a success

BRISTOL — No matter how much people have enjoyed a job over the years, a time can come when a new direction looks like a good idea.

At least that’s how married couple Jeff and Mary Stetson explained their decision to step down this June from their unique 25-year partnership as Mount Abraham Union High School’s co-athletic directors.

Jeff, 58, and Mary, 55, who will still teach part-time and coach at Mount Abe, can readily offer highlights from their years sharing the AD job.

Legion recognizes Bristol police officer as a top cop

BRISTOL — The Vermont American Legion has named Bristol police officer Josh Otey its Vermont Law Enforcement Officer of the Year.

“All the candidates were worthy of the award and recognition ... It had to be a hard choice for the committee in that they were all so deserving,” wrote Tom Scanlon, chair of the Legion’s Law and Order Committee in a letter to Bristol Police Chief Kevin Gibbs, notifying Gibbs that Otey had been selected for the award.

Middlebury College graduates get a big send-off

MIDDLEBURY — Five hundred and seventeen students from 43 states and 39 countries — backed by a throng of over 5,000 parents and well wishers — gathered under a blue sky Sunday to receive their diplomas and say good-bye to student life and begin the world.
