BRISTOL — Five-town voters on March 6 will cast ballots on a 2018-2019 public school spending plan for Addison Northeast that would result in a 1 percent increase in equalized per-pupil spending and spur some significant staffing changes within the newly created Mount Abraham Unified School District (MAUSD).

The proposed MAUSD budget reflects $24,746,279 in education spending to operate Mount Abraham Union middle and high schools; the elementary schools in Bristol, Lincoln, Monkton, New Haven and Starksboro; and the Addison Northeast central office.

FERRISBURGH — A couple months back volunteers at Ferrisburgh’s Rokeby Museum were going through the historic landmark’s outbuildings, evaluating them for possible conservation work or repairs, when they made a discovery — a small, painted wooden boat, just short of six feet long and in rough shape.

A more perfect match of treasure hunters and bounty would be hard to imagine.

Farm-to-table is a common phrase that most of us are used to these days, but how about farm-to-musician? Not so much.

It isn’t every day you meet a rising singer/songwriter who got her start by swapping hard labor on farms for voice lessons and recording studio time. But that’s exactly what Helen Hummel did.

“I took a job on a farm in Lincoln in exchange for vocal lessons,” she explained (as if it were totally normal).

VERGENNES — The Bixby Library is about to embark on almost a quarter-million dollars of renovations, repairs and reconfigurations that its board members and director think will not only help preserve the Vergennes landmark, but also enhance the library’s ability to meet the needs of the five communities it serves.

Board members said funding for what will in fact be three separate projects will come from the library’s maintenance endowment, grants, donations, and the sale of tax credits.
