ADDISON COUNTY — A wildly successful December muzzleloader season helped hunters in 2017 set a record for deer weighed in a calendar year in Addison County. At least this is the best since 2005, when Vermont wildlife officials banned shooting spikehorn bucks during November’s 16-day rifle season, the most popular Vermont deer hunting season.

Meet the chef: Gurdip Singh from Taste of India in Middlebury

Chefs who really know what they’re doing make it look effortless. They move calmly over the oven flames, stirring and shaking pans with sizzling veggies, searing meats and bubbling sauces. They grab spices — add a dash here and a pinch there. There are no timers and no recipe books; they’ve got the flavorings and cook-times down to a perfect science.

Wait. That can’t be true. Everyone must need a recipe — at least at the very beginning — right?!

Wrong.

MIDDLEBURY — Addison Central School District board members knew they would be in for a shock when they asked ACSD administrators to show them what a level-funded budget would look like for the 2018-2019 academic year.

And a shock is what they’ll get on Monday, Dec. 11, when they learn that a level-funded spending plan for the district’s nine schools could translate into a reduction of 14 licensed teachers, 18 paraprofessionals, a principal and a central office worker.

“It’s wild,” Welch said in a conversation with the St. Albans Messenger. As he was waiting for the Republicans to offer a plan to fund the government, he refelected on Jerusalem, impeachment and the House firearms vote, all of which had taken place the day before.
