Middlebury Police Log: Woman cited for domestic assault

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police cited Jessica McGrath, 29, of Middlebury for domestic assault, after investigating a report of a woman striking another woman with a wine bottle at a Seminary Street Extension residence on June 4. Police said they took McGrath to Rutland for treatment for intoxication.

In other action last week, Middlebury police:

•  Assisted Middlebury Regional EMS with a drug overdose patient on June 2.

Bristol Police Log: Road range incident ends in arrest

BRISTOL — In the past week, Bristol police reported on three recent incidents.

•  On June 6 police arrested a Bristol man in a road rage-related incident.

Officers arrested Timothy Joseph Clodgo, 48, on suspicion of simple assault and unlawful restraint after, Police Chief Kevin Gibbs reported, he confronted a fellow motorist on Prince Lane, in the Shaw’s and Rite Aid parking lot.

Pipeline hearing set for June 12 at MUHS

MIDDLEBURY — The Vermont Public Service Board will hold its second and final hearing on the proposed Phase II of the Addison Rutland Natural Gas Project on Thursday, June 12, beginning at 7 p.m. at the Middlebury Union High School auditorium.

Lincoln school saying goodbye to dynamic duo

LINCOLN — For two Lincoln thespians, the curtain is about to fall. The pair, teachers at Lincoln Community School whose combined teaching experience spans more than half a century, are retiring at the end of this school year.

Alice Leeds and Donna Wood, the dynamic duo who have shepherded Lincoln youngsters through the brookside school for decades, will say goodbye to their final classes June 16.

The pair for many years organized a series of ambitious theater productions (even Shakespeare!) at the school.

Jackman’s employee wins award

BRISTOL / STARKSBORO — Sometimes when Dave Blair is delivering fuel oil to houses around the Bristol area he sees something that’s not right — a light left on, a door left open, or even evidence of a break-in. Although he usually has more deliveries to make, he said he always calls the office or somewhere to have someone alert the homeowners.

“I’ve been a renter and a homeowner myself, and I’d hope someone would call me if they saw something wrong at my home,” Blair said. “It’s like a neighborhood watch.”

Middlebury's Marquis Theater plans expanded food offerings

MIDDLEBURY — Marquis Theater owner Bill Shafer hopes to reinvigorate Middlebury’s vintage movie house with a series of improvements that would include expanding food and beverage offerings, revamping two of the three screening areas to create more casual seating, and staging more live entertainment.

“I can’t survive anymore just serving Hollywood,” Shafer said of the theater’s current emphasis on screening major, new-release films.

Barge filled with local foods begins new voyage to NYC

VERGENNES — A crew of four will set sail down the Hudson River early this June on the Ceres, the volunteer-built sailing barge of the Vermont Sail Freight Project, whose mission is to bring low-carbon regional food trade back to the Hudson. VSFP is entering its second season of operation and plans to host about 15 public markets on its journey down to the New York/New Jersey harbor and back.
