ADDISON COUNTY — Vermont State Police are investigating the theft of five chickens from a coop at a Ferrisburgh home this past weekend.

Troopers report that someone came onto the Old Hollow Road property of Jessy Amblo sometime between 6:30 and 10 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 4, and absconded with the fowl. Police ruled out the possibility that a natural predator had taken the birds.

Anyone with information on this crime is asked to contact state police at 802-388-4919. Information can also be submitted online at www.vtips.info or by texting “CRIMES” (274637) to Keyword: VTIPS.

In activity between Aug. 30 and Sept. 5, state police reported four traffic crashes and one other incident. During that period, troopers:

•  On Aug. 30 at just before 2 p.m. were notified of a single-vehicle collision on Route 22A in Orwell. Leon Price, 55, of Schenectady, N.Y. told police that he was driving a 2015 freight truck and trailer southbound on Route 22A at approximately 50 mph when a deer ran across the roadway and he began steering toward the edge of the roadway to avoid hitting the animal. Price said his truck caught the edge of the roadway, which subsequently caused the vehicle to go off the road and hit a concrete barrier and a tree.

Price was not injured but his vehicle was totaled. State Police do not believe alcohol or drugs played a factor in the collision.

Route 22 was limited to one lane of travel for at least five hours while debris from the crash was cleared.

•  On the evening of Aug. 30 received a complaint of a possible violation of an abuse prevention order. Police investigated and alleged that 20-year-old Deven Corse-Terrier of Salisbury contacted his ex-girlfriend’s mother, which violated a court order. State police cited Corse-Terrier for violation of an abuse prevention order.

•  On Aug. 30 at an unspecified time responded to a report of a car crash on Route 116 in Bristol. No one was injured, but police cited Travis C. Manning, 36, of Lincoln for driving with a criminally suspended license.

•  On Sept. 1 responded to a crash on Route 7 in Charlotte in which a Middlebury man working as a construction flagger was injured. At approximately 11:27 a.m. that Thursday state police went to Route 7 near Wildwood Way, where they determined that John Reya, 33, of Middlebury had been sideswiped by a passing vehicle while directing traffic in the construction zone. Reya sustained minor cuts and abrasions, but was not transported to the hospital. Reya is an employee of Kubricky Construction based out of Wilton, N.Y. Police said the vehicle, a 2007 Ford Focus driven by a 75-year-old man from Burlington, sustained scuffs to its front bumper and a broken antenna.

This case is still under investigation.

•  On Sept. 5 at approximately 2:25 p.m. responded to a one-car crash on Arnold Bay Road in Panton. A 17-year-old Ferrisburgh resident told police that she had been driving a 2009 Subaru Forrester southbound on Arnold Bay Road at approximately 45-50 mph when she lost control of her vehicle on the gravel road; the Subaru left the roadway and struck a tree. The driver and a passenger sustained no injuries as a result of the collision, but the car was a total loss. State police said they determined that neither alcohol nor drugs played a factor in the collision. No court action was anticipated.
