ADDISON COUNTY — On May 25 at around 8 a.m., Vermont State Police stopped a 2007 maroon Chrysler PT Cruiser on Route 7 in Ferrisburgh because the vehicle’s registered owner had an expired license and the vehicle was exceeding the speed limit.

During the stop troopers determined that the occupants of the PT Cruiser might possess drugs and deployed a state police K9. The police dog alerted to the vehicle and specifically the seat of a passenger identified as Jennifer Francis, 28, of Underhill. A search warrant was sought for a body cavity search; it was granted by a judge in the Addison County Superior Court, Criminal Division; and the search was executed at Porter Hospital.

Police report that Francis was found to have roughly 52 grams of crack cocaine and 12 grams of heroin hidden in her vagina.

Troopers cited Francis for felony crack cocaine possession, felony heroin possession, heroin trafficking and transportation of heroin into Vermont. She was lodged at the Chittenden Regional Correctional Facility with bail set at $10,000.

In other recent activity, troopers:

•  On May 27 stopped a vehicle on Route 22A in Bridport for defective equipment and cited the driver, identified as 24-year-old Michael Desjadon of Salisbury, for violation of conditions of release. Police said Desjadon has conditions of release forbidding him from operating a motor vehicle on a public highway.

•  On May 29 at 10 minutes to 4 p.m. looked into a report of a fight at a Lake Dunmore Road home in Salisbury. The initial report indicated an ongoing fight involving multiple people at a softball tournament. Upon arrival, state police interviewed Jessie Sprigg, 33, of Bristol and her cousin, identified as Lynn Fleming-Barrows.

Sprigg told police that she had been driven down to watch the tournament by her sister, identified as Veronica Sargent, and that Sprigg had put her purse in Fleming-Barrows’ vehicle. During the tournament, she went back to the vehicle to get some money from her purse, when she noticed that her money was gone. Sprigg additionally stated that money had been stolen from Fleming-Barrows as well. Sprigg and Fleming-Barrows said they began questioning individuals around the vehicle and that’s when an argument began.

Hearing the commotion, Sargent came over to get Sprigg to calm down. In trying to do so, Sprigg began to fight with Sargent. Sargent and Sprigg stated that multiple people intervened to get the two to stop fighting. After being separated, multiple witnesses stated that Sprigg continued to fight with other people, subsequently hitting a 22-year-old Bristol woman on the side of the head. Witnesses also told police that Sprigg began hitting vehicles with beer cans and her fists.

Troopers said Sprigg was intoxicated, and a preliminary breath test showed a blood alcohol content of 0.164 percent at approximately 4:30 p.m.; the legal limit for driving is 0.08. Police cited Sprigg for disorderly conduct, simple assault and unlawful mischief, and then released her to the custody of a friend.
