GILLIAN B. (WIDEAWAKE) GERO

MONKTON — It is with great sorrow that we share that Gillian B. (Wideawake) Gero, 50, died in an automobile accident on Oct. 26, 2025, in Leicester, Vt. She was returning home with her husband, Thomas Gero after spending parents’ weekend with their son at the University of Rhode Island.

Born on July 29, 1975, in Rutland, Vt., Gillian was the daughter of Gilbert and Judith (Ripley) Wideawake. She grew up in Rutland and graduated from Rutland High School in 1993. She went on to attend Castleton College, where she earned her bachelor’s in Marketing in 1997.

On Sept. 11, 2000, Gillian married Thomas Gero and they eventually made their home in Monkton, Vt. Together they raised two children, Parker Gero and Marshal Lee Gero, who were a source of great joy and pride.

During high school and college, Gillian often had two and sometimes three jobs. Later, Gillian worked in the Burlington, Vt., area in different sales and marketing roles before taking a position with the U.S. Government.

Gillian was a proud Navy mom and a great organizer of family events. She enjoyed camping with family and friends; trips to Maine where she could enjoy delicious lobster dinners; or quiet time working on jigsaw puzzles.

She is survived by her husband, Thomas Gero; two children, Parker Gero and Marshal Lee Gero of Monkton, Vt.; her parents, Gilbert and Judith Wideawake; her brother, Christian Wideawake and his wife Darlene of Rutland, Vt; and her sister, Jennifer Wideawake of Williston, Vt. Several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews; many loving relatives in the Gero family; and a wonderful group of friends also survive her.

A funeral service and celebration of life will be announced at a later date while her husband recovers from his injuries from the automobile accident.
