Lorraine Ernestine Thompson, 81, of Bristol
BRISTOL — Lorraine Ernestine Thompson, maiden name Giroux, 81, of Bristol, Vt., passed away peacefully on Feb. 21, 2025, at home in Bristol, Vt. A celebration of Lorraine will take place at Community Alliance Church on Monday, March 3, at 11 a.m.
She was born in Huntington, Vt., on April 11, 1943, along with her identical twin, Lucille Friend. Lorraine graduated from Burlington High School. Lorraine retired in 2013 after working 23 years as the Food Service Manager at Bristol Elementary School. Prior to that Lorraine and Lucille owned the Twin Video on Main Street in Bristol from 1988-92.
Lorraine was an avid baker, and over many years the community sought out her treasured breads, and other delicious treats at the farmer’s market in Bristol. Lorraine, had 10 siblings. She was predeceased be her brother Raymond, and survived by siblings Robert, her identical twin Lucille, Rita, Maurice, Janet, Patty, Carol and Debbie.
Lorraine and her sisters participated in weekly sisters’ lunch, meals filled with laughter and support for one another. Lorraine was passionate about cooking and trying new recipes, which she generously shared, giving her enormous pride when sharing her delightful dishes with others.
Lorraine was strongly committed to giving back the blessings she received. Lorraine was predeceased by her child Kathryn Julie Thompson and is survived by her children Steven Blanchette and Brittany, Penny Blanchette-Lucia and Jeremy, John Blanchette, Renee Blanchette Durochia and Jeff, Adam Thompson and Ashley; grandchildren Jeremy, Justin, Jessica, Jared, Mary Elizabeth, Jordan, Nicholas, Jasmine, Sheridan, Alexis, Connor, Isabella, Kenyon, Kaila, Harper Mae, and Gabriela Sky; an in-law grandchild, Zoe; great-grandchildren Kaleb, Lincoln and Miles; and in-law great-grandchildren Kaylee and Ethan.
Lorraine will be remembered as a generous, committed, and joyful soul. Lorraine was quick to laugh and share her profound wisdom with those in her presence, she was a proud woman, fiercely independent, and self-sufficient.
Friends and family are invited to Community Alliance Church, 190 Pond Road, Hinesburg, Vt., on Monday, March 3, at 11 a.m. A reception will immediately follow the service. Flowers in care of Scentsations Flowers & Gifts in Bristol. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Compassion International, a charity dear to Lorraine’s heart. ◊
