Sylvia Fisk, 89, of Ferrisburgh
FERRISBURGH — On April 1, 1935, Theodore R. and Alice Donovan Kimball welcomed their first baby into the world, Sylvia June. Sylvia grew up in North Ferrisburgh at the family home with her five siblings. She attended grades 1-8 in a one room schoolhouse in North Ferrisburgh, and went to Burlington High School. She married Clarence R. Fisk on June 13, 1952 and together they raised five children on their family dairy farm in Ferrisburgh.
Sylvia, 89, was a seventh-generation Vermonter whose ancestors were in the Revolutionary War. She believed strongly in the importance of hard work and self-reliance, which she instilled in her children. Sylvia had a proud, ever persevering, spirited personality. She always put others before herself, she had strong opinions, loved telling and was the keeper of family stories. Over the years she worked on the Fisk’s dairy farm, service and managerial positions in retail, Vermont Federal Bank and a farmstand in her local community. She also volunteered many hours of her time making her community a better place.
Sylvia is survived by her five children, Pamela (Paul) Mable, Christine (Dewey) Barrows, Mary Lou (Steve) Little, Gary Fisk and Gregory Fisk; her grandchildren, Chad Mable, Christopher Mable, Ryan Mable, Chauncy Barrows, Travis Little, and Sarah Little; eight great-grandchildren; her sister Trudy (Stuart) Stagg; her brother David A. Kimball; and nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Sylvia was predeceased by her brother George B. Kimball, her sisters Jacqueline Provencher and Nancy Cleveland and the father of her children, Clarence Fisk.
Sylvia was always quick to give a hug and say, “I love you,” to her dear ones. Her kindness, sense of humor and joy lives on in each of her family members and her many friends. Her family would like to extend an extra special thanks to Michelle Whitney for her extraordinary care and compassion. Dearly beloved, we rejoice she was part of our lives and will miss her always.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be held in the spring of 2025.◊
