ALLEN L. NOBLE

NEW HAVEN — Allen L. Noble passed away peacefully on Sept. 18, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Allen was born on Oct. 14, 1933, in Brandon, Vt., son of Lester & Gladys (Brown) Noble. He grew up on the family farm in South Lincoln. Upon graduating from Bristol High School, Allen served his country in the Army for three years.

On July 17, 1954, Allen married the love of his life, Donna, and they started their lives together in New Haven, where they raised four children. They bought their beloved house in 1964, making it into a beautiful home for the past 60 years. Allen served the New Haven community in many capacities: a founding member of the fire department, he also served as its assistant chief. For the town, he served as town lister, zoning board member and administrator, as a member of the Revenue Sharing Committee, and as tree warden. He was also a Boy Scout Master and maintained the town green for many years.

Allen worked for the U.S. Forest Service until his retirement in 1989, covering thousands of miles in our beautiful Green Mountains. He was recognized as “Outstanding Federal Employee of Vermont” in 1989. Allen fought forest fires in the South and West, traveled to many schools with Smokey the Bear promoting Fire Safety and was instrumental in creating the sign at Texas Falls. Allen worked 10 years of his life for Claire Lathrop as a forester. He was well-respected by many loggers, landowners, and those he worked with within the Forest Service.

Allen and Donna enjoyed Bluegrass music/festivals, stock car racing and camping. Allen’s other interests were football, baseball, and attending the Brown Family Reunions. Allen took pride in his travels, which brought him to every Vermont town and the lower 48 states.

Allen leaves behind his four children, Allen C. (Diane), Pamela Whitten (Drew), Tamera Davis (Neal), and Debra Wilkinson (Alan), along with 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. In addition, his family includes three brothers, one sister, cousins, nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Allen is predeceased by his wife, Donna and sister, Carol.

The family is very thankful to Dr. Diana Barnard for her care and concern for both of our parents. Our family is appreciative to all caregivers who cared for Allen, with a special thank you to his buddy Suzanne Orvis for her love and care for Allen and his family. Thank you to Donna Sargent for her help in keeping Dad in a comfortable home during his later years.

A graveside service will be at 11 a.m., Friday, Oct. 4, at Maple Cemetery, in Lincoln, Vt.
