Michael David Winters, 45, of Middlebury
MIDDLEBURY — Michael David Winters, 45, passed away unexpectedly while at a friend’s home in Rutland, on June 20, 2024. Since moving to Vermont in 2018, he lived in Vergennes and, most recently, in Middlebury.
He was born in Northampton, Mass., on April 29, 1979, the son of Daryl and Susan (Strube) Winters. He attended elementary school in New Hampshire, middle school in Colorado, and high school in Florida. Throughout school he played a variety of sports, including soccer, tennis, and football. After graduating from high school, he attended Florida State University.
Michael’s outgoing and affable personality, combined with his sense of humor, enabled him to make friends everywhere he lived. He offered a helping hand to anyone who was in need, often going above and beyond. A consummate salesman, he sold everything from shoes and men’s clothing to furniture to DR equipment. His grandfather always said that he could sell sand in the desert.
He was a lifelong Red Sox fan and enjoyed verbally sparring with anyone who happened to root for the Yankees. His hobby was collecting Nike shoes, and he amassed an impressive selection of colors and styles. But the greatest source of joy and pride in his life was the birth of his son, Brock, in 2016. Michael’s face lit up every time he told a story about Brock.
Michael is survived by his mother, Susan D. Winters; his sister, Kristina M. Winters; and his son, Brockton M. Winters; as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was predeceased by his father, Daryl R. Winters.
A service of remembrance will be held at the Vergennes United Methodist Church on Tuesday, July 30, at 1:30 p.m., followed by a gathering downstairs to visit with one another.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Turning Point Center of Addison County, 54 A Creek Rd., Middlebury, VT 05753. ◊
