MATÍAS ENRÍQUE ROSADO

WAXHAW, N.C. — Matías Enríque Rosado of Waxhaw, N.C., passed away on Saturday, July 17, 2021. He was 19 years old.

Matías was born in Boston, Mass., on Dec. 8, 2001, to loving parents, Rafael and Rachel Rosado. He graduated from Marvin Ridge High School in 2020 and had just finished his first year at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Matías was a quiet, thoughtful, kind and gentle soul, except when he laced up his skates. He played hockey from the age of seven and it was a passion that created lasting friendships. Matías had equal passion for the Bruins, Patriots and Red Sox, and found his greatest happiness on the beach at Weekapaug, R.I., and during endless summers in Vermont with family. Those who knew Matías best were fortunate to experience his incredible sense of humor and generous smile.

Behind that smile, Matías suffered from depression and a sense of hopelessness. Despite the endless love and support of his family and the care of great physicians, he could not overcome his mental illness.

In addition to his parents, Matías is survived by his brother, Mason, 17; maternal grandparents Joe Bartlett and Liz Saslaw of Lincoln, Vt., and Josie and Steve Davis of New Haven, Vt.; paternal grandmother Olga Rosado; aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends.

The family has established the Matías Rosado Foundation to support causes that were important to Matías, including mental health and youth hockey. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donating to the Matías Rosado Foundation at www.MatiasRosado.com. You can also contribute via check by sending it to: ImpactAssets, 4340 East West Highway, Suite 210, Bethesda, MD 20814. Please put Matías Rosado Foundation in the memo line.

“You know that place between sleep and awake; that place where you can still remember dreaming? That’s where I will always love you. That’s where I will be waiting.”
